Directions

  1. Cream shortening and butter. Gradually add confectioners' sugar (powdered sugar), creaming well. Add egg and flavorings. Beat until fluffy.
  2. Sift flour with baking soda and cream of tartar; add and mix well. Stir in pecans.
  3. Drop small teaspoonfuls (or shape into small balls) on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) for 8 to 10 minutes or until creamy tan in color. While hot, roll in confectioners' (powdered) sugar.

Okay, this is similar to the BEST cut-out cookie recipe ever invented. I don't doubt that these are great cookies! To make them into cut-outs, I use 1 C butter (no shortening) and I use 1/2 tsp almond flavoring. I'll try your version soon, as I love pecans and it's much easier not having to cut out cookies. Thank you:)

the cookies were easy to make but the results were a bit different than what i expected.

This is a shortbread-type cookie instead of a soft cookie, which I expected.But its is an excellent shortbread cookie when made with all butter!.
