Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C).
  2. Sift and measure flour; resift 3 times with baking powder and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream shortening; add sugar gradually and continue creaming. Add well-beaten egg and beat until fluffy. Stir in vanilla. Add flour mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Add gum drops and mix well.
  4. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet, about 2 inches apart. Stick 4 almond halves in top of each cookie. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until cookies are lightly browned. Remove immediately to cool.

These cookies were awful, even my kids would not eat them, sent the rest to my husbands office and told him not to say he brought them, all day he heard people asking 'where did these terrrible things come from?'

I must say that I STRONGLY disagree with the first review. I made these cookies for a family get together and they loved them so much and my family is rather picky. I will definatly be making much more to take with me to the christmas get together.
