  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x 13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream the white sugar and shortening together. Stir in the molasses and honey. Sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves; add to the creamed mixture and mix until well blended. Finally, stir in the raisins.
  3. Press the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, bars should turn golden brown. Top will appear smooth and dry to the touch.
  4. Meanwhile ... make the icing. In a smaller bowl, stir the confectioners' sugar together with the milk and vanilla. Drizzle over the spice bars while they are still warm. Allow cookies to cool before cutting.

Such a wonderful spice bar! I agree with some of the others to undercook is the key.

tasted great, smelled great...what did I do wrong? I baked 20 minutes and they were harder they rocks. Seem they need more of some kind of liquid.

I THOUGHT THESE WERE YUMMY!! ALMOST LIKE A HERMIT BUT I THINK I WILL BAKE THEM 5 MIN. LESS CAUSE THEY WERE A LITTLE HARDER THAN I LIKE.

This one is a "WINNER" They are very easy to make & at first they don't look like their going to turn-out like anything but crumbs but when you pat them down in your baking-pan & bake WOW are ...

I followed other reviewer's advice and added an egg and watched how long I left them in the oven. When they first came out, they tasted really good. It was odd, though, because after a few hou...

This is the best spice bar I've ever tasted! Love chewy cookies and these are moist also. One of my new favorites.
