Directions

  1. Whisk together 2/3 cup sugar, flour, cocoa, and egg yolks in a saucepan. Stir in milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thick. I start with a whisk and then use a spoon to stir the custard as it cooks.
  2. Remove pan from heat, and add vanilla and butter or margarine. Mix well, and pour filling into a baked, deep dish pie crust.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat the egg whites until peaks form. Slowly add 1/2 cup sugar, and beat again until stiff peaks form. Spread on pie.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 10 to 12 minutes, or until meringue browns. Let pie cool several hours before serving.

I fixed this pie for a family dinner and got rave reviews. In place of the meringue, I used a whipped topping made from cream cheese, sour cream, sugar and vanilla with cool whip folded in. The ...

This was good, but next time I won't use so many eggs, I think 3 egg yolks would be enough. It was a little eggy.

I multiplied each batch of this recipe by 5 to make a whole bunch of pies for friends at Christmas. Not only is it delicious, but very easy.

I made this the Christmas afternoon when I didn't have enough desserts. It was made for my brother-in-law. He LOVED it!!!!! I used regular white milk instead of evaporated milk and it was Fantas...

WAAYYYY TO many eggs I use 3 egg yolks and 2 whites. Unless you like it eggy tasting, don't use that many eggs. And if you use that much egg whites there will be way to much let over. Been ma...

Just like grandmas! Thx for sharing

The texture of the filling is great, but most chocolate pies will have at least twice the amount of sugar. My family definitely thought sugar was missing, so I probably will try making it again ...
