Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.
  2. Meanwhile, melt butter together with the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in onion, and cook until softened and translucent, about 2 minutes. Stir in garlic, red pepper, and mushroom; cook over medium-high heat until soft, about 2 minutes more.
  3. Stir in the shrimp, and cook until firm and pink, then pour in Alfredo sauce, Romano cheese, and cream; bring to a simmer stirring constantly until thickened, about 5 minutes. Season with cayenne, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir drained pasta into the sauce, and serve sprinkled with chopped parsley.

One thing to note, I have yet to find alfredo sauce that isn't salty so don't add any salt until you've tasted it just before it's ready to plate. Mine didn't need any because the salt in the alfredo sauce was enough. This recipe is a keeper! Thanks to the original poster."

"This was a great recipe! I made a few changes only because I didn't have all the ingredients. Instead of shrimp I cooked chicken seperately in salt and pepper and then cut into strips and served over ..." See morethe pasta. I used parmesan cheese instead of Romano, and added chopped spinach instead of mushrooms as I don't like mushrooms. It was absolutely delicious! My husband never goes back for seconds, but with this he went back for thirds!"
