“This kid-friendly sandwich is yummy and easy to make for lunch and snacks. Sort of in between a grilled cheese and a Monte Cristo.”

Original recipe yields 2 sandwiches

Directions

  1. Spread cream cheese on two slices of bread. Layer 2 slices of ham, 2 tablespoons of pineapple, and one slice of cheese over the cream cheese. Then top each sandwich with one more slice of bread. Cut off crusts.
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk and sugar. Briefly dip both sides of sandwiches in egg mixture.
  3. Heat butter and oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place sandwiches in skillet, and fry on each side until golden brown and cheese is melted, about 5 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels and cool for 3 minutes before serving.

I had high hopes for this recipe because I love pineapple and ham together but these were really greasy and got soggy very quick. I dont know if I did something wrong but they were runny and just not what I was expecting. Im giving it three stars because I think that it is possible for the sandwich to be good if a slice of pinnapple was used to replace the crushed pinnapple and if very little oil is used.

This was rather disgusting, and not kid friendly as my results turned out to be. Made a plate of these for my boyfriend's 10 yr. old sister's birthday party. A few bites were missing from a couple, but most were left untouched. Tried one myself and I can see why. Ham and pineapple are better suited for pizza, not french toast.

The husband and I loved it. Though he did learn its a heavy sandwich so he's now trying to fit another one he made in his stomach lol
