Original recipe yields 4 servings
Directions
- In skillet, crumble and brown sausage over medium heat until cooked. Set aside. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface to 12 inch to 14 inch rectangle. Cut into 4 pieces. Top half of each rectangle with sauce, sausage, mushrooms and cheese. Fold dough over to enclose. Crimp around edges with a fork. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

I used awesome-tasting Jennie-O hot Italian turkey sausage for a leaner calzone, and sautéed fresh white mushrooms in olive oil with freshly minced garlic and Italian se..." See moreasoning (instead of jarred mushrooms). I also used Rhode's frozen bread dough like the previous rater suggested (delicious). Toward the end of the baking time, I brushed the tops of the zones with olive oil and parmesan cheese. I baked them a little longer, until they were golden brown. My fiancé LOVED them and the way our apartment smelled while they were baking :). He bragged about them at work the next day. "
