“This is very different from the traditional hamburger patty, but if your kids enjoy both burgers and pizza, then they'll love this. Mine certainly do!” - by Brenda Espinoza

Original recipe yields 12 servings

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, eggs, onion, green bell pepper, salt, ground black pepper, Italian-style seasoning, sage, garlic powder, 1/2 cup pizza sauce and stewed tomatoes. Mix well and form into 24 patties using a 1/4 cup measuring cup OR an ice cream scoop.
  3. In a separate small bowl, combine the mushrooms and olives and set aside. Arrange 12 patties on 2 ungreased baking sheets. Place 4 slices of pepperoni on each patty, then a small amount of the mushroom olive mixture, and then a slice of mozzarella cheese. Top each patty off with another patty and pinch the edges all around to seal everything into the middle. Finally, top each with a drizzle of remaining pizza sauce and some shredded mozzarella cheese.
  4. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 30 to 40 minutes.

"I cut this recipe in half. I did follow the recipe closely, only using finely chopped red pepper in the patties instead of green peppers. I did use a homemade pizza sauce. This was an interesting way ..." See moreto prepare patties--it's like a mixture between meatballs, meat loaf and pizza. I had a difficult time keeping the stewed tomatoes in the patties and the mushrooms, olives and pepperoni was a bit awkward on top even though it's held in place with the mozzerella cheese. Though it's not quite a home run for us yet, the base recipe was great and I think I'll play with it a little to make it a family favorite."

"I made this recipe much healthier and it tasted great! I used 1/2 ground pork and 1/2 ground chicken breast. I used egg whites and panko bread crumbs and omitted the salt all together. I used green on..." See moreions instead of the gr bell pepper. I stuffed these w/ Canadian bacon, onion, reduced fat mozz chz, and roasted red bell peppers. I grilled these outside. I topped them w/ sauted onions and roasted red bell pepper w/ a little of a low sugar spag. sauce (which I also added a spoon full inside the patties and mixed w/ the meat). I probably cut the fat and calories by at least 1/2! These were good!"
