  1. Place the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium high heat. Saute for 5 to 10 minutes, or until beef is browned and onion is translucent; set aside.
  2. Melt the butter or margarine in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat and add the flour, mixing thoroughly.
  3. Add the milk slowly, stirring constantly, and return to the heat. Keep stirring until thickened to desired consistency.
  4. Add the reserved beef mixture, the peas, and season with salt and pepper to taste.

This is one of those "keeper" recipes I've made over and over many times. I found l/4 c. flour added after you fry the onions and beef and continue to fry for about 3 min. (stirring constantly) ...

I have trouble getting my college brothers to eat anything these days...they couldn't get enough of this recipe! I didn't have onions, except green ones, so used those; and added corn and golden...

After reading other reviews, I changed it a bit by adding two beef bullion cubes, garlic salt, and Creole seasoning to the sauce, and about six small sliced boiled potatoes to the hamburger mixt...
