“One Sunday afternoon I had the urge to cook and so this is the sauce I concocted. My wife and kids insisted I tell them what was in it so we could have it again. We serve it over rice, crinkly noodles or mashed potatoes. It is similar to a stroganoff, but it's not... it's Davy's Gravy. I usually double the recipe. Also, I use low-fat soups and very lean ground beef. Makes great leftovers, if you have any! Please enjoy ...Dave”

Original recipe yields 4 to 5 servings

Directions

  1. In a large skillet over medium high heat, combine the ground beef and the onion and saute for 10 minutes, or until the meat is browned and the onion is tender.
  2. In a large pot over high heat, combine the soups, mushrooms, soy sauce, steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, lemon juice, sugar, curry powder to taste, garlic powder, cayenne pepper and oregano and season with salt to taste.
  3. Bring to a slow boil, stirring often to prevent burning. When hot, add the meat and onion mixture.
  4. In a separate small bowl, combine the cornstarch and water, stirring until cornstarch is dissolved, and add slowly to the sauce, stirring well. (Note: This will thicken the sauce so only do this if you feel it's necessary.)

This recipe was okay. I personally found it a little too sweet, but my daughter loved it. I only made half a recipe so I used Cream of Mushroom soup only. I also didn't have any curry so I left that out. It got a little too thick, so I just thinned it out with some milk. I probably won't make again.

This is going to be a staple for weeknights in my house. The ingredients were all in the house, and I could get rid of leftover mashed potatoes. The kids really loved this, and to think I was worried about the different ingredients tasting bad? Oh and it took me all of a half hour to make.

YUCK! None of my family liked this recipie. It was too overwhelming in ingredients. I would not recommend this to families with children.
