Directions

  1. Combine corn syrup and sugar in large saucepan or Dutch oven. Heat over medium heat, stirring, until it bubbles and sugar dissolves.
  2. Remove from heat; immediately stir in cereal. Stir in 175 ml (3/4 cup) of the white chocolate chips and cranberries. Chips will melt in. Press into 33 x 23 cm (13 x 9-inch) baking pan lined on bottom and two sides with foil sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. Melt remaining white chocolate chips in medium bowl in microwave or over saucepan of boiling water. Stir until smooth. Spread over mixture in pan.
  4. Let cool. Lift out of pan, remove foil and cut into bars.

"It was just ok. A cinch to make but I actually prefer the plain old rice krispie squares, and I am someone who likes a lot of flavour...." See more"

"I brought this to a family Christmas gathering, and it seemed to be enjoyed, mostly by the kids. I admit I made a change or two: I used orange-flavored dried cranberries and also added a bit of orange..." See more essence to the white chocolate drizzle. (Careful with the orange essence! Since its water and alcohol based, more than a couple drops will ruin the texture of your melted chocolate.) I think my problem with this recipe is that it doesn't taste cohesive - it tastes like rice krispies and cranberries and white chocolate. It's missing that element of magic that turns 'ingredients' into a harmonious dish. However, if you're looking to impress some hungry kids, this is a keeper. One note I'll give on preparation: Timing! Because of the rapid cooling of the corn syrup mixture and also the white chocolate drizzle, you have to be quick on the draw. (For example: Spread out the rice krispie mixture the second its thoroughly mixed.) It worked out for me, but I almost had a mucky mess on my hands!"
