Original recipe yields 4 dozen bars

Directions

  1. PREHEAT the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 10x15 inch jelly roll pan.
  2. COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Spread into greased 15 x 10-inch jelly-roll pan.
  3. BAKE for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown. Cool in pan on a wire rack, then cut into bars.

The taste was not too bad, but if you would like the bars to be soft and chewy, bake them at least 5 minutes less than the recommended time.

My mom used to make these for us as kids when she didn't have the time to spend making drop cookies. She added an extra touch. Before putting in the oven she sprinkled approx. 1 cup of choc chips over the top of the dough in the pan, put it in the heated oven for a minute or two, took it out, and then ran a knife through the melted chocolate on top, swirling it throughout the pan cookie. Looks beautiful when baked and cooled!

Cut down butter to 3/4 cup, but still a little much. Baked in 9x13 pan for about 25-30 mins.
