Directions

  1. Cook the sausage in a 6-quart saucepot over medium-high heat until the sausage is well browned, stirring frequently to break up meat.
  2. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the onion and garlic to the saucepot and cook until tender. Pour off fat.
  3. Stir the soup, milk, broccoli and 1/4 cup of the cheese into the saucepot. Heat to a boil. Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 5 minutes or until the broccoli is tender, stirring occasionally.
  4. Put the pasta in a large serving bowl. Pour the sausage mixture over the pasta. Toss to coat. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Serve with red pepper, if desired.

"Having said that, I used pork/venison sausage instead of the sweet Italian it called for and I wish I hadn't. I think this dish needs the sweetness to offset the saltyness of the rest of the ingredie..." See morents. I couldn't find Cream of Brocoli and settled for Cream of Brocoli and Cheese. I used a package of Wacky Mac instead of the spirals to bring more color to the dish. I did add a bit more milk (about 1/2 c.) because my broccoli (which was fresh, not frozen) just didn't have enough liquid to cook. Overall it wasn't that bad but I won't be making it again. Why? My 3 year old daughter only ate the sausage and the oldest, a 5 yr. old, tried it and wouldn't touch anymore (she's usually a good eater). My 1 year old ate the macaroni okay but it wasn't the ideal dish for a youngster with few teeth. It's worth trying if you have nothing else to cook and have the ingredients on hand. Maybe it was just a personal preference and your family will like it. But I won't be making it again. Always like to try new recipes, though, so thanks for the post!"

"This recipe was good, but not quite what I had expected. Perhaps it was because I didn't make it quite right. Instead of the straight cream of broccoli, I used broccoli and cheese, and I forgot to add..." See more the parmesan. I think that the broccoli and cheese, with its cheddar flavor, was too much contrast from the Italian sausage. Also, I think if I had used a more spicy and less sweet Italian sausage it would have had a better flavor as well. This recipe is good for an easy meal after a long day at work and isn't bad for being a Campbell's one."
