These are the single-fried oysters that my Mom cooked at the market. A simple and delicious appetizer cooked Chesapeake Bay style.

Based on a 2,000 calorie diet


  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium high heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Combine oysters, oyster juice, egg, salt, pepper and Old Bay Seasoning. Gently stir in pancake mix to make a thin batter.
  3. Spoon oysters one at a time into hot oil. There should be just enough batter surrounding oysters to coat them but it should not be too thick.
  4. Fry until golden brown on both sides. Drain and serve.

I have tried many recipies for fried oysters and this is by far the very best and the easiest!


I used belgium waffle mix and just dipped them in the mix. this was absolutely incredible! I really love the sweet breading. I used cornmeal on a few to see the difference, and the waffle mix was much better by far with its light sweetness. adds the real "yesss" to this dish. I've been eating fried oysters for years and never had em' this good. Thank you sooo much for sharing!


This gave me some of the most satisfying fried oysters I've ever had. And it is so easy. A huge hit on Valentine's Day. But, I'll be using this recipe lots. Thanks.
