Original recipe yields 6 servings

Directions

  1. Heat shortening in a large skillet over medium high heat. Saute onion until brown; then add the sugar, salt, flour, dry mustard, chile powder, pepper, vinegar and water. Mix and cook together until mixture is thick.
  2. Stir in chopped meat, Worcestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce and ketchup. Heat through, then serve on buns.

At this point, I added a little more sugar and worchestershire sauce, and finally some liquid smoke to give it more of a barbecue flavor. I thought the flour was a little strange. My son enjoyed this and had seconds, so this gets 4 stars."
