Original recipe yields 8 cups

Directions

  1. Puree tomatoes in blender or food processor until smooth. Pour into a large saucepan with the red wine vinegar, sugar, paprika, salt, garlic, crushed red pepper, cinnamon stick and cloves. Simmer over medium-low heat, covered, until thickened and flavors have blended, 15 to 20 minutes. Remove cinnamon stick and cloves before serving.

Won't make THIS again....wasted a lot of good tomatoes on this one!

This was way too sweet and the vinegar was too much. I added tomato paste, basil, oregano and beef broth to try to thicken the sauce and cut the vinegar and sugar. I will not make this again.

Really good flavor, but I found it too sweet. I would cut the sugar in half next time. Also, the sauce is a bit too watery for lasagne, so I added some tomato paste to thicken it up.
