"This is a simple recipe for salmon dip and spread that I've been making for years, and it always gets requested for social gatherings. Always enjoyed by my fishing buddies, it gained its nickname of 'cat food.' Serve with crisp crackers like rusks, canapes or melba toast."

  • Prep

  • Ready In

  1. Drain the salmon, remove bones and pieces of skin, and place the salmon into a bowl. Flake the salmon apart with a fork. Stir in onion, lemon juice, horseradish, and salt until mixture is well combined. Stir in smoked salmon cream cheese spread, a few spoonfuls at a time, until the spread is very well combined. Pack into a serving container, and sprinkle with parsley to serve.

Footnotes

  • Cook's Note
  • The key to this recipe is in the quantity of lemon juice and horseradish. I sometimes use beet horseradish to augment its color, or jalapeno horseradish for those who don't mind a bit of zip.

I love smoked salmon! This is a nice change from traditional smoked salmon with cream cheese on crackers. I also like the fact that this is a much more reasonable way of getting those flavors. P...

Had no salmon cream cheese on hand, but did have regular cream cheese (whipped) and liquid smoke. I think it would have been delectable had I used less liquid smoke. It was ok otherwise. I ga...
