  1. Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in the garlic and onion; cook and stir until the onion has softened and turned translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the cabbage; cook and stir until the cabbage has softened, about 20 minutes.
  2. While the cabbage is cooking, fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, stir in the gnocchi and return to a boil. Cook until the gnocchi float to the top, about 3 minutes; drain.
  3. Stir the cooked gnocchi and ham into the cabbage and heat through. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Footnotes

  • Cook's Note
  • You can cut down on the butter a bit by adding substituting some olive oil or chicken broth. But I wouldn't cut out too much!

I'm so glad I tried this!!! I simplified this by buying bagged shredded cabbage, and it was a breeze! I know what recipe I'm going to when I have left over ham!

3.5 Used less butter, not too bad and a nice change. Served with mashed carrots and parsnips.

Easy and quick. Add more flavor by using garlic salt, and I did not use all that butter. I used about 2 big table spoons after I added the cabbage. And used olive oil to saute the onion.

Absolutely delish without any changes!!!

I didn't change much but added more ham. Next time I may add broth for a delicious soup!
