  1. Place the bacon in a large, deep skillet, and cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Pour off the bacon fat, and place the drained bacon pieces in a slow cooker.
  2. Stir the tomatoes, clams, potatoes, onion, carrots, celery, parsley, salt, pepper, thyme, and bay leaf into the slow cooker, cover, and set the cooker on Low. Cook until the vegetables are tender and the flavors are well blended, 8 to 10 hours.

This was actually pretty good. I was put off by the tomatoes and carrots in the recipe as I've never made clam chowder that way, but it was really tasty...I used fresh thyme from my garden. Than...

I followed the recipe exactly and it was soooo good. I will be making this alot in the future. Thanks for the recipe:)

It is a delicious chowder but they should get a new picture of it.

The picture is deceptive. You think you are going to make New England clam chowder (the creamy, buttery kind as shown in the picture) when in actuality, this was Manhattan clam chowder (almost...

It shows a picture of creamy New England clam chowder, but the chowder that results from the recipe given is clearly a Manhatten-style chowder.
