“A friend gave me this recipe some years ago for a vinegar-based sauce with mustard seed. You can use smoked pork neck bones in place of ham hocks if available.” - by go_vikes

Directions

  1. Combine the cider vinegar, apple cider, brown sugar, mustard seed, Dijon mustard, tomato paste, salt, black pepper, and neck bones in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat; simmer until the sauce thickens, 30 to 40 minutes. Skim any foam from the surface of the liquid and discard. Remove and discard the neck bones. Cool the sauce to room temperature or use immediately.

"I scaled the recipe down to 6 servings as it is just the two of us. I followed the exact recipeand was a little concerned after tasting it when done reducing the sauce. I didn't find it super interest..." See moreing. A big however, I was wrong! I did not use the sauce as a "mop" but rather a marinade for b/s chicken breasts. Marinated for about 8 hrs and then my husband grilled on our charcoal Weber. Tender, juicy and flavorful. My husband said he liked it as an alternative to Sweet Baby Ray's. We will definitely be having this sauce again. Thank you, go_vikes!"
