Original recipe yields 1 9x13-inch cake

Directions

  1. Prepare cake batter and bake in 13x9-inch pan as directed on package. Cool cake in pan 10 minutes. Pierce cake with large fork at 1/2-inch intervals.
  2. Melt 3 chocolate squares as directed on package; set aside. Blend milks and sour cream in blender until smooth. Add melted chocolate; blend well. Pour over cake, re-piercing cake if necessary until milk mixture is absorbed. Refrigerate 1 hour. Meanwhile, make curls from remaining chocolate square. (See Tip.)
  3. Frost cake with COOL WHIP; top with chocolate curls. Keep refrigerated.

I followed the recipe exactly. It turned out really well. I took it to a gathering and received lots of compliments. Other Tres Leches recipes I looked at complained of excess liquid in the bottom of the pan. I did NOT have that problem with this cake. It was moist and delicious, but not runny.

Although mine didnt look half as pretty as the picture of this recipe...the taste was amazing. Company loved it.....very moist and so easy. Yes there really is a lot of liquid to absorb....so poke big holes!.... I let this sit overnight in the fridge to soak and absorb before I frosted with the cool whip (lite by the way). And I also dusted the top with cocoa powder instead of the shaved chocolate. Easy and a crowd pleaser! Thanks!

This cake is a BIG hit with my family. My 15 yr old niece asks me to make it every chance she come over!! I is sooooo easy!! and yummy Its a 5 star!!
