This is just the best tasting chili. My family prefers it over beef chili. I like to put out toppings such as chopped onion, cilantro, chopped bell pepper, cheese, and sour cream and let everyone serve themselves.

Directions

  1. Cook and stir the ground turkey in a large pot over medium heat until crumbly and no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, kidney beans, pinto beans, black beans, onion, garlic, and red wine. Season with chili powder, cumin, parsley, oregano, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and bay leaves. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer 2 hours. Stir the chili occasionally as it simmers. Remove and discard bay leaves before serving.

This was my first time making chili, and the recipe was a great guide. I used 1 lb of ground turkey and 1 lb of ground chicken because that's what I had in the fridge. Worked great. I added some extra garlic and cooked the garlic and onion for a few minutes and then browned the meat in the same pot. After putting it all together, I put it in my crockpot on low for about 4. I also added about a tbsp (or a lil more) of fire-roasted chopped green chilies. The fam loved it! Thanks for the recipe!

Good recipe. I've made a turkey chili similar to this for a few years. I find the proportions here are substantially similar. Some of the time, I have to omit the bay leaf (personal taste) and tone down the red pepper flakes and add a bit of garlic. But all in all, this recipe is fine. Thank you for sharing.

This is almost just like I make. The only difference is I sautee a chopped green bell pepper in with the onions. I also use a jar of black bean salsa (or whatever salsa I have on hand) instead of the can of tomato sauce & add a pinch of brown sugar. My daughter likes corn in chili, so I add that too! :) My latest addition is chilies in Adobo sauce. Adds a nice smokey authentic taste! Add to your taste though, they can get hot if too many.
