Original recipe yields 1 9-inch cake

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Thoroughly grease a 9-inch Bundt® pan with shortening, then dust with flour. Shake off any excess flour from the pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt until thoroughly combined. Gently mix in the cherry pie filling, chocolate chips and nuts, and scrape the batter into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out with moist crumbs, about 1 hour. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then invert pan and remove cake. Allow cake to finish cooling on a rack; sprinkle lightly with confectioners' sugar.

I decided to make this recipe because it was faceless and needed a photo and also, I had all the ingredients on hand. I baked it in a Nordic Ware Heritage Bundt pan for 1 hour. The next time I bake it, I plan on adding almond extract and maybe a light chocolate glaze. The cinnamon was very faint. We love chocolate and cherries and combined together, they made a very moist cake. It is a keeper for me! Thanks for sharing!

Neither my husband nor I liked this cake. I followed the recipe, didn't change or add. Served it to two different sets of friends. The 2nd couple are closer friends and they both said put in some coconut and you have a fruit cake. Bottom line, it was too heavy and not enough cherry flavor.
