Directions

  1. Place potato flakes, wheat crackers, flour, butter-flavored granules, salt, and pepper into a food processor. Pulse until the crackers are finely crushed, then transfer mixture to a bowl.
  2. Melt the butter flavored shortening in a skillet over medium-high heat. Dip the tomato slices one at a time into the eggs, then the cracker mixture. Pan fry the tomatoes in the shortening until golden brown on both sides, 7 to 10 minutes.
  3. Mix the ranch dressing, sour cream, and hot pepper sauce in a bowl. Serve the fried tomatoes with topped with the sauce.

Hubby and I both prefer a beer batter fried green tomato...but I made the zesty sauce and was blown away with flavor. I'm sure it would be fabulous for the more traditional just as written. Sauce would be great on other items as well!!!!

I didn't use this recipe for my tomatoes, perhaps I should have as mine were boring. I was looking for a dip and came upon this recipe, love it. I added the amount of hot sauce to my liking. Turned bland fgt's into a delicious delight.
