Slow Cooker Sloppy Swiss Steak

Scott K 0

"After a search on Allrecipes for Swiss steak resulted in 16 similar recipes, I decided I wanted to create something unique. It may be a stretch to call my creation 'Swiss,' but the result was a meal the whole family liked. Even my picky 4- and 7-year-old boys ate a large portion of it!"

  1. Sprinkle both sides of the steak pieces with seasoned salt and paprika. Place the flour in a shallow dish, and thoroughly dredge both sides of the meat with the flour. Pound the meat on both sides with the tenderizing side of a meat mallet, pounding some of the flour into the meat.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat, and brown the steaks well on both sides, about 5 minutes per side. Layer the steaks in a slow cooker with the green bell pepper and onion strips and carrot. Mix together the diced tomatoes with green chiles, sloppy joe sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, and wine, and pour over the steak and vegetables.
  3. Cover the slow cooker, set the temperature to Low, and cook until the steaks are tender and the sauce is thickened and well blended, 8 to 10 hours.

  • Cook's Note
  • You can do most of the prep the night before, making this a very quick dish to put together in the morning. I cut the meat and vegetables and mix the sauce the night before. In the morning I just season, pound and brown the meat; then put everything in the slow cooker.

Doubled the recipe and omitted the browning of the meat. I did season and dredge in flour but added right to the crockpot in layers with the veggies. My only other change was to use white wine s...

I've now made 2 Swiss steak recipes from this site and liked the other one better although this one is still good. I served mine over white rice but it would go really good over some mashed pot...

This was really good, my 5 and 3 year old ate it up and they're picky. I didn't have bell pepper or the sloppy joe mix, so I used a couple cans of tomato sauce and extra worcestershire, oh yeah ...

It was delicious

I, too, skipped the browning part. I didn't have Sloppy Joe sauce, so I used a small can of tomato sauce and an equal amount of BBQ sauce. Added a squirt of Tabasco and some soy sauce. I used a ...

This was just alright. It tasted kind of like a spicy roast. Also, you can use any cheap cut of meat in this recipe, it cooks so long, its all going to fall apart anyway.

Did not use the slow cooker, was in a hurry and used ground beef. Next time I'll add soy sauce on the table...this was very good.

This recipe was delicious!! I used Swiss Steak and substituted Red Wine Vinegar for the actual Red Wine. This will be made frequently!!

Great!!! Had a small roast on hand, sliced it into 3 thin steaks, followed directions for tenderizing & browning the meat. I didn't have paprika, so I used garlic powder. From there, I just use...
