Original recipe yields 12 servings



  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly oil a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, stir in the egg noodles, and return to a boil. Cook the pasta uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the pasta has cooked through, but is still firm to the bite, 4 to 5 minutes. Drain well.
  3. Melt butter in the pot, and stir together the drained noodles, cottage cheese, salt, and applesauce. Mix in the sugar and cinnamon. Add the beaten eggs; stir to blend all ingredients. Pour mixture into prepared baking dish.
  4. Bake until top is very brown, about 1 hour.

I have had a few kugels before and this was really not one of my favs. at all. It turned out pretty bland for my familys taste and the noodles on top were dry and crunchy, in a very unappealing way. recipes i have used and loved before used cream cheese and Kellogs Frosted Flakes for a delightful and tasty crunchy top.



What a novel idea! Family recipes always taste delicious.



I am the author of the recipe and I wanted to mention that if you do not want the noodles on top to come out crunchy, then you should cover your pan with tin foil before putting it in the oven. You may want to adjust your baking time a little to ensure it doesn't overcook. Some people love the crispy noodles. I do not, but my mother and brother always fought over who would get to eat them. :)
