Original recipe yields 4 servings

Directions

  1. Combine corn and hot water in blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. Mix cornmeal, sour cream, sugar, salt and cheese in large bowl. Pour blended corn mixture over cornmeal mixture in bowl. Stir until evenly moistened.
  2. Divide dough into 18 pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten to about 1/4-inch thick and 3-inches in diameter.
  3. Melt shortening in medium skillet over low heat. Cook arepas 3 to 5 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Cool. Serve with hot rice and black beans.

"It's decent, nothing more nothing less. The recipe as stated comes out pretty soupy so you're not rolling anything out into squares. But that's ok as you can just portion it out in the pan as you fry ..." See moreit. All in all the taste is decent, probably needs a bit more cheese and sugar. I will try it again to see what it's missing. The kids liked it so it will get made again."
