“This is a dish my parents used to be able to make in a half hour when we were children. I added a few additions to make it a little more exciting and fairly low in fat. Serve on hamburger buns with traditional hamburger condiments if desired.”

Original recipe yields 4 burgers

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  2. Mix tuna, egg, bread crumbs, garlic salt, and black pepper and fold in diced tomatoes and onion. Form the mixture into 4 patties and place onto prepared baking sheet.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until burgers are golden brown and crisp, about 10 minutes per side.

These were pretty good. They are very plain though, you definitely need to serve them with some sort of sauce. We served ours without buns and topped with dijon tartar sauce.

I really enjoyed these tuna patties. Since tuna is packaged in 5 oz. cans nowadays, I slightly decreased all the other ingredients except for the egg and the tomatoes. I used canned tomatoes since I didn't have any fresh ones. I cooked the patties 5 minutes longer on each side and served them with an easy remoulade sauce.

I deviated from the recipe slighty but was very impressed! I used Pace diced onions with green chili's for a little more flavor. I will definitely be making these again!
