Original recipe yields 16 servings

Directions

  1. Place bacon and vegetable oil in a large, deep pot with a tight-fitting lid over medium heat. Cook and stir bacon until crisp and brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Scatter the popcorn into the pan with the bacon and drippings and cover with the lid. When you hear kernels of popcorn begin to pop, shake the pan vigorously until popping slows to 1 or 2 pops per about 30 seconds.
  2. Remove lid facing away from you to avoid steam and transfer bacon popcorn to a large serving bowl. Season to taste with salt if desired.

I had to try it, I just had to. I love bacon and I love popcorn, what can I say? Usually when I make popcorn it’s because I want a healthy, light snack, so I feel guilty I made this and added quite a bit of bacon. The bacon flavor just didn’t come through prominently enough for me, and had a greasy taste to it. I thought it was pretty blah even with sea salt added. Considering the cost of bacon, I will save it for BLT’s and leave it out of the popcorn.
