  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. For crust, beat butter in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar and salt; beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in the flour on low speed until combined. Press two-thirds of the crust mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 13x9x2-inch baking pan.
  2. For filling, combine sweetened condensed milk and Werther's Chewy in medium saucepan. Stir over low heat until Werther's Chewy melts and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in nuts and vanilla. Spread hot mixture over the crust. Dot with remaining crust mixture.
  3. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until crust is golden. Cool in pan on a wire rack. To ensure even squares, cool the layered bars thoroughly before cutting.

They taste very good and I would of given them a 5 star, due to things being left out of the recipe I can't. FYI All you need is 1 bag (5.5 oz) of Werther's caramel. There is 25 in one bag. I didn't know so I purchase 2 bags to find out I only needed 1. Also your butter needs to be at room temp. No where does it tell you that. You only figure it out when you read the directions. They taste great and the guys at my boyfriends coffee club loved them. I did add 1 cup of coconut sprinkled on top of the bottom crust. I also used pecans instead of walnuts and I increased them to 1 cup. This is not something you want to make if your in a hurry. It took 10 min. to unrap the candy, 10 min to make the bottom crust and another 15 to melt the mixture. Them 30 min. to bake. Be sure to use a non stick pan and let it cool completely before cutting.

How do I love thee...let me count the ways...Let me say first that I made the recipe to the "T" except I used pecans instead of walnuts. I used a 9 x 13 pan but mine weren't as thick as the picture's. I checked them at 25 mins and they were ready. I probably should have removed them at 20 mins. A little chewy on the edges. Found the flavor was even better the second day. Husband says these are "IT"!


Wow. So incredibly good. There was no way I was going to get 2/3 of the crust to spread out in a 9x13 pan so I used a 9x9 pan. This made them much thicker and took longer to cook. About 40 min. But they are amazing.
