Based on a 2,000 calorie diet

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Prepare cake mix according to package directions and bake in a 13x9-inch baking pan. Let cake cool completely and cut into 1-inch cubes.
  3. Prepare pudding mix according to package directions. Chill at least 30 minutes. Place half of cake cubes in a 3- to 4-quart trifle bowl. Spoon one can of the LUCKY LEAF Cherry Pie Filling over cake; spread 1 cup pudding over cherries and top with half of whipped topping. Repeat layers.
  4. Top with chocolate curls, if desired. Cover and chill at least 1 hour.

Elsewhere I've seen this trifle called "Black Forest Trifle". This recipe is much better (IMO) if you use brownies, cut into 1" squares. Also, mix the pie cherries with approx. 1/2 Cup berry juice (the brownies then absorb the flavor better), change out the chocolate pudding mixture with white chocolate (mix according to pkg instructions, but fold in 8 ounces of whipped topping). So, the layers go like this: 1/2 brownies on the bottom, 1/2 cherries next, 1/2 pudding/topping mixture next. Repeat layers. Top with chocolate curles or shavings. HUGE hit with my family!
