My way of making pulled pork is simple: slow cooker, 1 can of beer, a 5 to 6 pound pork butt, seasonings, and a bottle of barbecue sauce. My beer choice is Shiner Bock®. My seasoning choices are salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. My barbecue sauce choice is Sweet Baby Ray's®. Just put it in a slow cooker before you go to bed and when you wake up the magic has happened. See for yourself. This recipe is perfect for a party, and you can even prepare 2 and feed around 30 people. Serve on onion or hamburger buns.

Directions

  1. Set the slow cooker to High.
  2. Place the pork in the slow cooker. Season top of pork with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Pour beer into the bottom of the slow cooker and place the lid on the slow cooker crock.
  3. Cook pork on High for 1 hour. Reduce slow cooker heat to Low and cook for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  4. Remove pork from the slow cooker and shred with two forks. Discard juices and rinse out slow cooker crock. Return shredded pork to slow cooker and stir barbeque sauce into pork.
  5. Cook on Medium for 1 hour.
  6. All done! Now take a photo, rate it, and share your accomplishments!

I used Stubbs original bbq sauce and just made a few adjustments to seasoning for a 8lb pork shoulder butt . Completely fell off the bone very tender! My kitchen smelled like marriage proposals in the morning.

This recipe was extremely easy. The pork practically shredded itself. I couldn't even lift it out of the crock without it falling apart. The only thing I will say is the meat itself really had no flavor before you put the sauce on it. I would have liked it to have a little something on its own with out the sauce. After cooking in the sauce, it tasted wonderful. I would recommend adding liquid smoke, brown sugar, or cola to the mix to give it a little more dimension.

Simply excellent. Never thought I'd be able to make pulled pork at home in a slow cooker! - this is something we normally enjoy eating out. But this time I happened to have some pork shoulder in freezer, it was snowy winter day and comfort food was calling my name. This pulled pork was almost as good as my brother in law's BBQ pork which he makes using outdoor smoker. Well, let me tell you - I was very proud of my pulled pork it was delicious! I didn't have any onion powder so just omitted it, used Kraft's BBQ sauce and added a little of BBQ seasoning. Next time I would probably add some liquid smoke just to add that smokiness to the flavor. Otherwise - thanks to the author for the great recipe and I highly recommend it!
