“Great main-dish salad! I got this recipe years ago from a friend from PA. The curly fries sound a little strange for a salad ingredient but they make it different-also kids will enjoy it AND eat their salad!” - by DEBNJAMES

Directions

  1. In a covered dish, spread out sliced steak, peppers and onions and pour the Italian dressing over all. Cover and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes.
  2. Cook French fries according to package instructions while steak is marinating.
  3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, saute steak, peppers and onions until vegetables are tender and steak is cooked to your liking. Separate steak mixture into 8 equal portions while in the skillet, and top each portion with cheese. Cover and set aside to let cheese melt.
  4. Arrange lettuce, tomatoes and garbanzo beans on 8 separate plates. Top each salad with 1/8 of the French fries and 1/8 of the steak mixture and serve with Ranch-style salad dressing.

"Great salad - being from PA I had to try this! And, while this doesn't compare to Pat's or Geno's, it's a nice twist on a great classic! My husband loves cheesesteaks and since I have a hard time gett..." See moreing him to eat salads this was perfect! I used a sirloin steak that I partially froze in order to get the slices nice and thin. I marinated only the steak in light Kraft Italian dressing that I perked up with some additional minced garlic and bit of oregano. I marinated it for about an hour. I sauteed the onions and pepers in a bit of olive oil and then sauteed the steak. I used light cheddar cheese on mine and provolone on my husband's portion. You can leave out the garbanzo beans if you like, but I love them so I left them in the salad. To put this over the top I wanted a homemade Ranch dressing, so I used "Ranch-Style Buttermilk Dressing" from this site. I will definitely make this again."
