Original recipe yields 1 - 9x13 inch pan.
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, stir together the cake mix, cinnamon and cloves. Add egg, oil and applesauce; mix well. Stir in the walnuts and chocolate chips. Mix in currants if desired. spread the mixture evenly into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven, until lightly browned. Cool before cutting into bars.

"Wow, what a total waste of expensive ingredients! I made this recipe today, following the directions exactly, and these 'cake mix bars' turned out very dry and tasteless. Also, the uncooked mixture ..." See morewas very, very thick and sticky, and it was a chore to spread it into the 9 X 13 baking pan. I finally had to grease a stirring spoon and smooth the mixture into the pan. I can only warn others to not waste their time & energy (and costly ingredients) making something that no one in their right mind would eat!"
