Original recipe yields 1 - 9x13 inch pan

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan. In a saucepan, combine 1/2 cup butter, oil, 4 tablespoons cocoa, and 1 cup water. Boil for 1 minute.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and white sugar. Beat in chocolate mixture. Beat in eggs, buttermilk and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool.
  4. To make the Frosting: In saucepan, combine 1/2 cup butter, 6 tablespoons cream, and 4 tablespoons cocoa. Boil for 1 minute. Place confectioners' sugar in a large bowl. Pour in chocolate mixture and beat until desired consistency is achieved. Beat in vanilla.

I'm sorry, I try not to leave bad reviews, but this cake was not good...I wouldn't recommend this recipe at all...will not be making it again...

I love this recipe. I call it Buttermilk Brownies. I noticed she forgot to add the 1 tsp of baking powder to the ingredients!! I don't cook it any longer than 20 minutes no matter how gooey it is cause it continues to cook after you pull it out. I also use dark cocoa powder instead of regular!!! yummmy

Good flavor ... and certainly quick, moist, and yummy, but ... I was struck by the absence of leavening (other than eggs) in the recipe. Not sure if this is an error or purposeful; does make for a VERY heavy cake (which didn't rise much at all) -- more like fudge than a cake...
