Original recipe yields 1 8x4-inch loaf

  1. Toss chopped pears with sugar, ginger, and cloves in a large bowl. Set aside and let the sugar dissolve in the pear juices.
  2. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease an 8x4-inch loaf pan.
  3. Stir vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs into the pears. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add the flour mixture to the pear mixture and stir gently just to combine. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 40 minutes.

Cookin Up A Storm

I did this bread without the cloves (we are just not fans of clove around here). I also used freshly grated ginger, quite a bit of maybe a couple of tablespoons. It was very tasty. I thought the taste improved after a couple of days so when I make this again, I will make a couple days in advance to let the flavors blend. Nice recipe, easy to put together.

These are delicious! I made these as muffins and they came out great. Used two pears and added 1/2 cup of walnuts. Yummi!
