  1. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion, bell pepper and smoked sausage. Season with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Add the black-eyed peas and hog jowl for flavoring (and luck for the next year!) Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Simmer over low heat for 1 hour. When ready to serve, stir in cooked rice and cheese until cheese has melted.

Always trust your instincts! A TABLESPOON of garlic powder? For two cans of peas? The result is inedible; and we like garlic. I'm trying to salvage it by adding more ingredients, but I have a...

hahaha its been so long since i submitted this recipe i forgot it. was updating my profile & found it and fixed it ..even tho not new years is still wonderful!!

My family loved these. I left the rice and cheese on the side for so that people could add them if they wanted too.
