Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9 inch square baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together brown sugar, boiling water, vanilla, and butter. Pour into prepared baking dish.
  3. In a clean bowl, mix together white sugar, flour, milk, baking powder, nuts, and raisins. Drop by spoonfuls on top of the mixture in the baking dish.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes. Serve warm.

The first time I tried this recipe, I was really disappointed. However, I made some modifications on it, tried it again and am thoroughly enjoying it as I type. I cut the water and brown sugar down to 1/3c and increased the flour a bit to make a thicker batter. Having done that, I really like the recipe!

We found this to be a quick and delicious recipe. I recently found this recipe in an old Mennonite cookbook. The whole family liked it!

It isn't worth making. We thought it had a funny texture. Just alot of useless calories for what you get.
