Grilled Portobello mushroom caps, prepared in a garlic and balsamic vinegar marinade, give these veggie burgers their meaty flavor and excellent texture. It’s the steak of veggie burgers! The kind of hearty burger that meat eaters and vegetarians alike will love. And in the off season, you can always broil the mushrooms. Watch the video, then get Bob's 5-star recipe for Portobello Mushroom Burgers. Top it with a slice of provolone cheese, and serve it on a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, and an aioli sauce. I pour the marinade into the cup side to start with, then flip to wet the smooth part. When I removed the gills, the flavor was less mushroomy. we like the flavor with the gills -- of course, they have to be fresh, if they are slimey, then they would not taste good. In a pinch, we just toss them in any kind of vinaigrette. We sometimes grill slices of onion and stack them. Grilled green tomatoes or sweet peppers also is a great variation.

I made the recipe as is and only used a different sauce on top. It is one of the best recipes I've even made!!!

She did not remove the gills in the mushrooms. If not removed they will give a muddy taste to the preparation.
