Do I need to purchase a special type of flour, or can I use the regular bread flour that I have?

I have my original starter II received from my sister approx. 35 years ago. When I use some of the starter, and feed it, I use a plastic zip lock bag. Leave it on the counter, squish it daily, and use as needed. I have saved 1 cup several times (35 years), and freeze it in either a plastic bag or regular freezer container. When you take it out of the freezer, that's Day 1 to start feeding. DON'T EVER, EVER ,EVER USE METAL!!!! Glass bowl, jar or plastic. I used mine for making Friendship Bread, cakes, muffins.

Never use active dry yeast or fresh yeast or brewers yeast. Don't put anything in your starter except water and freshly ground organic flour. The yeast and bacteria that you are cultivating are already present in organic whole grain flours you just need to give them 5 to 12 days to become active and populate well enough to raise a loaf. I use wooden spoons and chopsticks all of the time and my starter was started from scratch 14 months ago. Required ingredients: Organic rye flour Organic whole wheat flour Water Time Care
