pizzelles break after baking. Why?>

Pizzelle recipe says in the add to flour stage to add 2 tbl.sp. baking POWDER. Then sift the flour and baking SODA together. Very misleading. These are too totally different ingredients. Which do we use?? Awaiting your reply for use in my recipe. Thank you, Linda Calcaterra
