Not 1/4" slices, use 1/2 to 5/8 inch slices. 1/3rd the recommended cornmeal, three times the black pepper and twice the salt into a plastic bag, then shake the egg coated okra in it until well coated. cook over med. heat until the corn meal starts to get small almost burned black spots. Remove with slotted spoon onto paper towel and you will have TRUE southern okra from my grandmother that was born 2 years after Lincoln died!
