Plays: 108453

Split pea soup is one of the world’s great soups. Maybe it’s the slightly sweet, somewhat salty, and subtly smoky flavor of the ham. In this video, you’ll learn how to make an easy ham and split pea soup. You’ll see how to properly sweat the diced, aromatic vegetables without browning them and how to sift through the dried split peas to pick out the occasional tiny pebble. Discover the correct time to taste test your soup for seasonings. This hearty soup is the ideal fall or winter soup—a great one for lunches or as a starter for dinner. Nice soup. That's not country ham, though. Country ham is salt cured. If you used it in this soup, I'm afraid it would be inedible. Way too salty. What he has in the video is just a regular ham steak. Really good, simple, inexpensive recipe.
