How to Make Red Hot Liqueur

Plays: 3418

Watch Chef John turn a favorite candy from childhood into an intoxicating adult beverage that’s wonderfully sweet and spicy. It couldn't be easier. You’ll pulverize Red Hots into a powder and dissolve the powdered candy in vodka. Then simply strain it, and you’re ready to sip this sweet, spicy, cinnamony cordial! The beautiful red color makes it a great cordial to give at Christmas time. Of course, it's also a love potion, making it the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. Be careful, though, the sweetness and cinnamon spice of the Red Hots really mellows the vodka burn, making for some very easy drinking. Enjoy in healthy moderation. See more Chef John videos >>

We use a coffee bean grinder to pulverize the Red Hots. Saves on pounding your counter tops.

I simmered mine down with sugar and a little water. After it dissolved, I let it cool and added vodka. It makes it a little thicker and a bit sweeter like it.

or you could just take cinnamon hard candies and let them dissolve no straining needed
