i used a food ricer one night, great and yummy, but just for two of us was a real hand workout, food mill would be a great new toy for me to try, i use the food ricer now for deviled eggs, just once threw, i like a little whites with mine, so is mixes them well

Don't over-whip! I know too many folks who do this. And don't scoff at the instant mashed potato idea. My mom, (who cooked everything from scratch), started using a good brand of instant mashed potatoes in her old age. I use them at times too!
