I grew up on making dumplings from scratch but unlike my relatives I really don't like bread dough dumpling and biscuit dough is even worse. Why? I'm not just into taste when it comes to food I'm also a texture person. So I will share my secrets, use skinless boneless chicken thigh meat instead it has fat in it that will allow you more flavorful broth and the meat melts in your mouth with no stringiness that breast can have because you want to fork tear the meat a part once it's done, not one big clump of meat this way you get meat and dumpling in every bite. Next tip is buy the No Yolk Dumpling noodle in the packs instead and cook until the noodles are wide slippery and tender Once the chicken and creamy gravy is done in the crock pot mixed in the done noodles stir and let it stay on low for about an hour. I made this for my family not too long ago...my two sons didn't really care for it at all. I was bummed because I thought they would love this dish. They both thought the biscuit dumplings were gross, and I agreed that they had a strange consistancy & flavor. I loved the idea another reviewer had for doing the filling in the slow cooker and then filling pie crusts & baking. Pre-made Pillsbury crusts would work great for these & you could modify the addition of veggies to suit your family's taste, which I think I may try.
